Boil order in effect for Agriculture Road

The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) is advising all customers of Agriculture Road, Triumph that a boil order is in effect for water used for food preparation and for personal consumption.

In a press release, GWI said this is a precautionary measure that will remain in place until further notice. GWI is reminding consumers to take care when handling hot water and to ensure that while water is cooling it is stored in a covered container. The company also said that water can be made safe by using household bleach: add three to four drops of household bleach to each gallon of water, mix well, and allow to stand for 30 minutes before use.

Additionally, the company said that construction of the wells at La Grange and Meten-meer-zorg will be delayed as vital materials were damaged during shipment. GWI said a structural failure at the Meten-meer-zorg well last year prompted them to procure new fibreglass well casings and, to avoid a similar occurrence at La Grange, the company also ordered the product for this well.

GWI said it is investigating the cause of the damage while it has ordered new materials. The company said affected customers will continue to receive water by way of black tanks as it awaits the new shipment.

GWI is grateful for customers’ continued patience and co-operation in this matter. The company said customers can visit their website located at www.gwiguyana.com or email gwi@gwiguyana.com for more information.
