Man remanded till lawyer proves ‘serious deficiency’ in case

Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton on Thursday remanded to prison a man who was found with a quantity of cocaine and cannabis.

Ernest Wright, for whom no address was recorded, pleaded not guilty at the Wales Magistrate’s Court to two charges of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

He was also slapped with charges of being an unlicensed driver, being in breach of insurance and driving an uncertified motor vehicle. He pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.

According to the facts of the case, Wright, last Wednesday at the La Grange Police Station had in his possession two grammes of cocaine and five grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. It is also alleged that on the same day, he was driving an uncertified motor vehicle, while not being in possession of a driver’s licence and was in breach of insurance.

Wright’s attorney Paul Fung-a-Fat entered an appearance for him but declined to make a bail application. He said there was a “serious deficiency in the case and if I make the application it would be tipping the prosecution off.”

Wright was ordered to appear at court on February 22.
