ERC not currently probing Johnson case as matter with AG’s Chambers

The Ethnic Relations Com-mission (ERC) on Monday said that it is currently not investigating a complaint lodged with it by Vreed-en-Hoop headmaster Alvin Johnson as the matter had been referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers by the Teaching Service Commis-sion (TSC).

The ERC was clarifying a headline in Monday’s edition of the Stabroek News which said `ERC pursuing headmaster’s discrimination claim’.

In a letter to this newspaper the ERC said it felt that the caption did not reflect what was actually said by the ERC’s Chief Executive Officer Christine King who made it clear in another comment yesterday that there is nothing that the commission could do with Johnson’s matter right now.

She insisted that the ERC is not “investigating” the matter as such and further stated that the commission will not do anything unless it receives feedback from the TSC which advised it that the matter was with the Attorney General.

“One of our rules dictate that if any other body or organisation is investigating the matter we will wait until that body is finished
