Plans afoot to make Region Six tourist stop

Minister of Tourism Manniram Prashad says government is working with Berbicians to promote Region Six as a tourist destination.

Prashad was in Berbice on Friday last to discuss these plans with the private sector, a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release said. He urged the private sector to collaborate with government and to invest in the Berbice Exposition and the New Amsterdam (NA) Town Day activities which are held annually to promote the region’s products. Prashad said agro-tourism is another sector that can be piloted in Berbice as sugar and rice factories attract tourists.

Additionally, Prashad singled out Number 63 Beach as one of the areas to be developed while focus will be placed on preserving old NA buildings and the Frasers’ house at Number 19 Village which is said to be the only one of its kind in the Caribbean. The minister also pointed out that the proprietress of the Little Rock Hotel is a pioneer in the Berbice tourist industry.
