Banks makes more senior appointments

A Banks DIH executive was recently named a fellow at an England-based engineers’ society while three other employees were appointed to senior positions.

In a press release the company said Buildings, Trans-port and Power Generation Engineering Executive Shabir Hussein was awarded a fellow of the England registered Society of Operations Engineers and of The Institute of Road Transport Engineers. Banks said Hussein, who is also a non-executive director at the Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation, has been a member of the fraternity since 1995 and has more than 30 years experience in the engineering field.

The company also recently appointed Andrew Reynolds Stores Executive with responsibility for the procurement of local items and managing the day to day operations of the department. Reynolds joined Banks as a casual employee at the Number Two Stores in May 1977. The next year he was promoted to Stores attendant and, in 1981 he was transferred to the Number One Stores to understudy the then supervisor. He was then promoted to a grade two employee the following year and his success at this and other posts resulted in him being appointed manager of stores in 1989.

Banks has also appointed Patrice Jacobs its Electrical Engineer. A Saint Stanislaus College ‘old boy’ and the holder of a BSc in Electrical Engineer from the University of Guyana, Jacobs joined the company as an electrician in September 2000 and worked his way up to the top position. He was responsible for the Brewery Automation and some aspects of the Programmable Logic Control. In 2003 he was appointed senior electrician and worked for some time at the Power Generation Department and other production plants including the Trisco and Novelty departments. In 2004 he headed the Utility Plants including the Water System, Ammonia and Refrigeration, followed by a promotion to head the electrical department last year where he assumed responsibility for all of the company’s electrical work.

The company also appointed Mark Lashley head of the Wholesale Liquor Store. Lashley joined the company in 1973 and worked in the maintenance section at the Beer Plant. Last September he was appointed to the new post where he continues to demonstrate his ability to lead and his commitment to the company.
