Behind every problem child there are at least two adults with serious deficiencies

Dear Editor,

Bonita Harris’s letter on the 1st death anniversary of her “beloved partner” Ronald Waddell captioned “My partner Ronald Waddell was murdered one year ago” (07.01.30) was a grim reminder of our present state of affairs and the manner in which we are “progressing.” Time is indeed a wonderful teacher. I am beginning to see things so differently now – and they seem to be getting brighter in the dark, no wonder some insist that we got exchange instead of change. One year has gone by since this “unfortunate” murder which remains just another shrouded, passing event. But as the spirit moves, and “into higher plains unexplored”. I take this opportunity to say to Bonita “Peace Profound”.

But, Mr Editor, that letter penned by Bonita was not just another letter, it was an emotional plea on behalf of our children, it was a letter of truth, plain and simple, beseeching us to harken to their cries from within.

Indeed, her “uncompromising solidarity “with our children and young people” is well founded, for who can stand in denial when she states; “especially my views that behind every problem child there are at least two adults with serious deficiencies.” Here is where we are beginning to look beyond the surface we have to stop pretending and being false. What can be more incisive and to the bone than when she further states, “our deformed and deranged children do not end up as adults in mental asylums. They are in our ‘disciplined’ services. They are in positions of authority in homes, schools, faith and governmental organizations. They are in our jails and at large in our communities. Our children – the good, the bad and the ugly, do not make themselves. We do.”

Understand that we are fooling ourselves in believing that our laws/systems are perfect, designed to be impartial, protective and just to all, including those scraping the bottom of the barrel; who looks out for the children of Lazarus?

Caught up in a world of every man for himself and the devil takes the hindmost, we have become heartless and callous, unmindful of another’s condition. Goaded by our warped belief, bordered on greed we make frantic haste to acquire and satisfy our materialistic appetite, then remain smug in a false sense of security brought about by our self delusion, thus we turn our backs and pretend we don’t see, until we find ourselves at a cross road face to face with the dread of the dregs – the forgotten and rejects coming back to haunt us. What goes around comes around. Understand that a system that functions only to protect itself is bogus; each of us is a part of the whole.

Bonita’s pleading for a revolutionary approach in dealing with the unfortunate and unheard voices – our children, some of whom have become the scourge of our society must be thoroughly examined, if we are sincere in correcting the ills in our society. And we need not forget that there are also many functioning in authority who are equally psychopathic, deranged twisted minds, hidden and protected by the veneer of high office. But who gives a damn about that.

Those in authority should keep Bonita’s letter as a point of reference. The voices of the children must not be stifled.

Yours faithfully,

Frank Fyffe
