Foreign Affairs regrets Kennard’s passing

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed sympathy to the family of the late Minister of Agriculture and Guyana High Commissioner to Canada Gavin B Kennard.

Kennard was the first Guyanese to be appointed to the position of Director of Agriculture. He was also Agricultural Advisor to the late President Forbes Burnham and executive chairman of the Guyana Rice Board. During his career Kennard held many other senior level positions with the government and within the private sector. He was awarded many distinctions including the Commander of the Order of the British Empire, bestowed upon him by Queen Elizabeth 11, and the Cacique Crown of Honour by the Guyana government, in recognition of his service to the nation.
