Demerara Bank hosting contest for Region Six primary students

To commemorate its third anniversary the Demerara Bank Limited Rose Hall branch, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, is hosting a Quiz competition for Region Six Primary Schools students.

A press release from the bank said the participating schools were separated into four zones: Zone A, Crabwood Creek – Eversham Primary School, Zone B, No 36 Village – Rose Hall Town Primary School, Zone C, Belvedere – Gangaram Primary School, Zone D, All Saints – Friends Primary School.

The competition began on Friday last which saw the following schools opposing each other: Crabwood Creek versus Corriverton Primary, No. 36 Village versus Wellington Primary, Belvedere versus Albion Primary and All Saints versus St Aloysius Primary. As the competition progresses the first round winners will move on to the semi-finals and finals expected to be hosted at month end.

The release said general questions were compiled by teachers from the schools including about the bank and its Rose Hall branch, Social Studies and Current Affairs.

The bank said it received favourable responses from the ministry and schools, parents, teachers and the students who were excited about the competition. Regional Education Officer Sharifan Bhajan said, the “Competition is being held at an appropriate time since the Grade 6 children are preparing for the National Grade 6 Examination and this will encourage additional revision and research.” Bhajan said this competition will have a positive effect on primary education and she hopes other institutions will emulate this endeavour. Bhajan also said the winning school will be the recipient of a complete computer system, which she feels is an appropriate gift as the schools want to embrace information technology.
