Bartender remanded on attempted murder charge

A 30-year-old bartender appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with attempted murder and was remanded to prison.

Bharat Ram called ‘Robin’ of Cornelia Ida Squatting Area, West Coast Demerara (WCD) was not required to plead to the indictable charge of attempted murder and was remanded to prison by Magistrate Fazil Azeez.

It is alleged that last Thursday at Cornelia Ida, WCD, Ram wounded Savitri Kissoon with intent to commit murder.

Reports are that on the said day, Ram, who is Kissoon’s neighbour, was passing by when Kissoon ran out and dealt him a lash on his hand. The two are not on speaking terms. Ram cuffed her and dealt blows to her body with a piece of wood injuring her. As a result of the injuries received she was rushed to the hospital.

Police Prosecutor Ramsahoye Rambajue informed the court that Kissoon is still in a serious condition in the hospital. Ram will return to court on March 27 at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.
