Gajanand Singh on fire in Trinidad

Guyana’s Gajanand Singh is grabbing the headlines in Trinidad and Tobago as he continues to lead the way for W-Connection Wanderers in the Eastern Credit Union cricket league.

Singh, following up on his exploits in the Carib Sunday league has now turned his attention to the three-day league competition. In the first round he grabbed six wickets for 12 runs to bowl his team to first innings points against Aranguez.

Batting first, Wanderers reached 150 and Singh then turned on the heat taking 6/12 to humble Aranguez for 114.

When Singh came on to bowl, the score was 87 for two and Aranguez lost their final eight wickets for the addition of just 27 runs.

Batting a second time Wanderers got to 217/7 declared setting Aranguez a winning target of 254. They ended on 123/1. Defying the Wanderers bowlers was

Guyanese Troy Cornelius with an unbeaten 66.

Elsewhere, Merryboys, led by an unbeaten 58 from former Guyana and West Indies spinner Neil McGarrell, overhauled Clarke Road’s first innings total of 185.

McGarrell came to the crease with his side on 129/6 and shepherded the lower order to take the score to 206.

T&T middle-order batsman Gregory Mahabir struck the first century in the 2007 league, when he hit a stroke-filled 124 in the second innings. The

Left-handed Mahabir slammed 13 boundaries in his team’s second innings total of 254 for five declared as the match ended in a draw. Second round of the competition will take place tomorrow and Sunday.
