Guyanese enriching Trinidad cricket

Manager of the Trinidad and Tobago cricket team, Omar Khan, says that Guyanese players playing in the domestic cricket league in Trinidad, have enriched league and their presence has lifted the standard and quality of the league.

Khan, speaking to Stabroek Sports said:”In my interaction with the Guyanese players, I have found them to be great team players who help foster great team spirit and togetherness.”

Khan, who managed the T&T which won the regional cricket double (The four-day and the one-day competitions) this year, is also president of the PowerGen Sports club.

A number of Guyanese players in Vishal and Krishna Arjune, Homchand Pooran and Shawn Thompson, have in the past represented Powergen Cricket Club.

Khan said the experience those players brought to the league had been tremendous.

“Most of the players coming out of Guyana have represented their country at various levels on the regional scene.

This makes it a plus for the league as the quality is now higher.

“For our players in Trinidad and Tobago, it is a great opportunity for them to interact with these guys. It is all a learning process and players from different countries can learn a lot from one another.”

Chairman of the national cricket league committee, Azim Bassarath echoed the sentiments of Khan.

“These players that are brought out of Guyana seem very grateful for the opportunity and this is reflected in their attitude on and off the field,” he said.

“Our players in Trinidad can learn from these guys who truly take their cricket seriously and are really professional in their deportment,” he added.

Presently there are over 25 Guyanese cricketers playing in the leagues in Trinidad and Tobago. They can be seen playing from national league division one down to the zonal level.
