Pet owners should require a licence

Dear Editor,

While many animal lovers are sickened by the cruelty being inflicted on animals, there needs to be a form of control whereby, only lovers of animals, caring and friendly human-kind can be allowed to have and to keep pets.

Genuine animal lovers and caretakers, pet shop owners, veterinarians, the Guyana Socie-ty for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the City Council need to formulate a comprehensive anti-cruelty law which would require persons to obtain licences to keep pets.

Failure to have a licence will result in prosecution of the owner. The strict licence and fee system will help to control stray dogs and cats and to some extent to deny anyone from having an animal which he/she cannot care for or afford.

On another issue, could the waste and garbage collectors train their garbage collecting teams in proper hygiene and cleanliness. And could each garbage truck be equipped with brooms, spades, water and hoses and disinfectant and a cleaner to clean the slush and dregs of polluted, offensive filth that contaminate the streets in this ‘garden city’.

Finally, I beg NCN not to interrupt the BBC News with ads.

Yours faithfully.
