Duo refused bail on two carnal knowledge charges

Two men accused of having carnal knowledge of a teenaged girl and a woman at their home were yesterday refused bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Levi Braithwaite, 20, a mini-bus conductor and Troy Sutherland, 25, both of 2582 Lagon Street, North Ruimveldt were not required to plead to two carnal knowledge charges.

It is alleged that on March 2 at Georgetown they unlawfully had carnal knowledge of a girl between the age of 15 and 16. They also allegedly had carnal knowledge of another female without her consent.

Braithwaite’s attorney Glen Hanoman told the court that the incident is alleged to have been committed in the wee hours of the morning and the police went to his client’s house at 11 am the same day and found him at home. He stated that Braithwaite has lived at the residence for fifteen years and was still there when the police arrived so this displays that he is not a flight risk, the attorney said. He argued that there is more than meets the eye with this particular case. He continued that his client works as a conductor on a bus owned by his father. The father of the teen was in court and stated that his daughter recently turned 15.

Police prosecutor Sherwin Matthews objected to bail for both men saying that the two are adults and they took the virtual complainants to their home. Both men were remanded and their case was transferred to Court Three for March 8.
