Chattergoon, Deonarine, De Jonge, Daesrath hit tons

Former Guyana U-19 batsman Ramnarine Chattergoon registered the highest score in the latest round of the Berbice Zone of the Neal and Massy limited-overs cricket competition when he slammed 141 to lead national defending champions Albion Community Centre to a 181-run win over Skeldon Community Centre on Saturday at Albion.

Chattergoon and his more illustrious brother national opening batsman Sewnarine Chattergoon had put on 82 for the first wicket of which Sewnarine Chattergoon’s contribution was 41.

Following Sewnarine’s dismissal, Ramnarine Chattergoon and Narsingh Deonarine put on a whopping 232-run partnership for the second wicket.

Deonarine scored a brilliant 116 as the defending champions cruised to 335-3 off 40 overs.

Skeldon Community Centre in reply was dismissed for 154 despite a fine 67 from Imran Jabbar. There were also victories for Bermine, Young Warriors, Rose Hall Town Courts and West Berbice.

At the Rose Hall ground in Canje, Berbice opening batsman Maxie De Jonge slammed 136 (12 fours and 6 sixes) to steer Bermine to a match-winning 259 for 6 against Police. De Jonge featured in a partnership of 90 for the second wicket with former Guyana under-19 batsman Anthony D’ Andrade and 97 for the fourth wicket in 13 overs with former Berbice under-19 batsman Julian Moore (27).

Michael Newland, 2-34, Clyde Gibson, 2-34 and Albert Sinclair 2-50 were the chief wicket-takers.

Police in reply, made a spirited effort but could only muster 227 for 9.

Newland, 48, Imran Moakhan, 44, Zaheer Moakhan 30 and Gibson 27 were the main contributors while Eugene La Fleur 3-28, Steve Latcha, 2-25, Andrew Williams 2-35 and Steve Sinclair 2-32 were the wicket-takers.

At the Blairmont Community Centre ground, former national captain Damodar Daesrath with 101 not out and Waheid Edwards with 45 were mainly responsible for Young Warriors reaching 194-5 in their 40 overs with Mohammed Imam taking 2-17.

Blairmont Community Centre, in reply, was restricted to 127 thanks mainly to a fine bowling spell from Hubern Evans, who captured 4-27. he was supported by Gajanand Singh with 2-18. Roland Budhram, 31, and Vejai Heeralall, 23 were the principal scorers for Blairmont.

Led by national players Assad Fudadin and the Crandon brothers Royston and Esaun, Rose Hall Town Courts scored 202 in 39.1 overs against Scotsburg United at the Area H ground, Rose Hall Town.

Fudadin scored 60, Royston Crandon, 50, Esaun Crandon 32 and Michael Rengasammy, 30 as Alex Amsterdam grabbed 4-24 and Shahab Rasheid, 4-36.

Guyana Twenty/20 star Esuan Crandon with 5-29, Leland Edwards 3-37 and Andre Percival 2-2 then combined to skittle Scotsburg for 68 in 17.2 overs

And, a fine all-round performance from Salim Satar saw West Berbice to a three-wicket win over Rose Hall Community Centre at the Bush Lot ground.

Batting first Rose Hall Community Centre scored 195 off 38.2 overs with Rocky Beepat, 35 and Balram Samaroo, 26, the principal scorers.

Claudius Fraser took 3-23, Satar 3-28 and Kenje Sedoe 2-34.

In reply, West Berbice scored 199-7 off 39.2 overs. Satar scored 55, Qwesi Mentore, 29, Sedoe, 27 and Carlston Nurse 21 not out. Samaroo took 2-33 and Sean Jhetto 2-36.(SH)
