28 schools left in battle for Futsal Chico Sweets/Smalta Cup

Twenty-Eight schools have been left to battle for the Chico Sweets/Smalta Cup in the National Secondary School Futsal Tournament being held at the gymnasium.

The qualifying teams that were selected on the basis of points standings from group A-I are St. John’s College (4), Freeburg (3), Belladrum Secondary (3), Queenstown Community (6), Christ Church (5), David Rose (5), Dolphin (3), Mahaicony (3), Central High (3), St. Joseph High (2) Plaisance Secondary (2), Richard Ishmael (4), Alleyne High (4), Kingston (4), North Georgetown (5), South Ruimveldt, Golden Grove (6), Covent Garden (4), Brickdam Secondary (2), St. George’s High (5), St. Mary’s Secondary (5), Tutorial High (2), North Ruimveldt (5) Tucville (3), Carmel (2), East Ruimveldt (5), Charlestown Secondary (5) and St. Winifride’s Secondary School(2).

The competition continues tonight at the Gymnasium from 5:30pm. Meanwhile, on Tuesday evening six teams copped wins while two teams played to draws.

In the opening match St. Joseph High defeated Plaisance Secondary 3-0, Christ Church defeated Mahaicony Secondary 2-1 and North Georgetown Secondary defeated Sophia Special School 3-0. St. George’s Exie Lewis and Mark Wright booted two goals each while Darren Benjamin took one to close off the match-up against Kingston Community 5-1 with Jamal Washington scoring one for Kingston.

Campbellville Secondary lost to Central High 5-2 and Alleyne High defeated Dolphin Secondary 3-2.

Guyana Education Trust College and School of the Nations each scored two goals in their drawn encounter.
