Gunman robs disco supervisor, bandits hold up city hotel, Barbadian guest

A lone gunman early yesterday morning robbed a supervisor of the Night Rider Disco at Victoria Village, East Coast Demerara of his cellular phone and $14,400.

A police press release said the employee, Andre Wilson, was alone at the disco and was about to close when he was approached by a man who posed as a customer and ordered a meal.

The police said the suspect then entered and proceeded to the kitchen where he held up the employee and robbed him before escaping.

Meanwhile the police are also investigating another robbery by three armed men at a city hotel.

The police in a statement said that on Sunday the suspects, one of whom was carrying a suitcase, approached the receptionist of a Sheriff Street hotel and enquired about a room.

It said too that during the process the men whipped out guns, held up both the security guard and the receptionist and robbed her of $20,000. One of them then stood guard over her while they demanded that the security guard take them to a specific room where they held up Peter Douglas, a Barbadian guest and robbed him of $18,000 and silver jewellery. The bandits then fled.

Police say Douglas had an earlier altercation with a Guyanese female acquaintance, who was not present at the time of the robbery. No one has since been arrested but the police are continuing investigations.
