Albion Community Centre cricket team made light work of West Berbice on their home ground to earn a place in the final of the 2006 Isaac Bissoon first-division three-day competition in Berbice last-weekend.

Albion won by an innings and 65 runs after Davendra Bishu took five consecutive wickets to help rout West Berbice for 62 in their second innings in the semi-final match.

West Berbice led by Dennis Webster and Keith Fraser with 40 and 33 runs respectively were dismissed for 114 in their first innings after being sent in to bat by Albion who responded with 241 all out for a first innings lead of 127.

Orvin Mangru made 40 while Shastri Persaud and Imran Khan both each scored 37 for Albion.

Bishu, who had earlier taken 6-38 in the first innings, took 5-1 from 5.3 overs in West Berbice’s second knock to send West Berbice packing. Only Salim Satar with 26 offered any resistance.

National first division player, Veerasammy Permaul, took 4-25 for Albion in the first inings.

Meanwhile, the second and third days of the other semi – final between Port Mourant and Young Warriors at the Port Mourant ground last weekend was abandoned without a first innings decision owing to heavy rainfall.

Young Warriors rattled up 317 all out after winning the toss and electing to take first strike on Friday with Damodar Daesrath leading the way with 78. He was supported by Gajanand Singh with 75.

Hubern Evans ended with 65 while Richard Ramdeen had 62 runs to complete a good all round batting performance for the national Shapoorji-Palonji Twenty/20 cricket champions.

Rajiv Nan and Homchand Pooran were the pick of the Port Mourant bowlers with 3 -30 and 2 -59 respectively. Port Mourant were 124 – 4 at the close of play on Friday with Sameer Khan on 53 not out and Rajendra Bolo on 24 not out.

Daesrath is the leading bowler so far with 2-32 for Young Warriors. A release from the Berbice Cricket Board of Control (BCBC) stated that the competitions committee of the board would set new dates for the remainder of the match.
