Martinborough may not renew contract with NIS

National Insurance Scheme (NIS) General Manager Patrick Martinborough may not renew his contract after it ends in November.

Martinborough, who has served 19 years as general manager and a total of 35 years at NIS told Stabroek News at the 38th anniversary of NIS yesterday that after his contract ends, “I don’t think I am renewing.”

Asked if he would reconsider, he said 35 years was “a long time”.

Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh in his remarks at the function said that based on correspondence from the general manager he had a “hint” of Martinborough’s intentions.

He told the NIS staff that the general manager has provided excellent leadership.

Martinborough was given a plaque from the staff. Employees who served NIS for 20 and 30 years were also given long-service awards. Ten bursary awards were handed out to children of NIS staffers who were successful at the National Grade Six Assessment exams.
