Defence counsel for beauty queen Carolan Lynch who has been charged with the murder of her husband, Swiss House Cambio boss, yesterday objected to a statement that was to be tendered in evidence by a woman Detective Corporal at the Preliminary Inquiry (PI).
The PI is being heard at Court Two of the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Gordon Gilhuys.
At yesterday’s hearing, woman Detective Corporal Lilian Scotland was again called to the stand to resume her testimony. Special Prosecutor Hukumchand who led the witness in evidence was hoping to tender a statement that was given to her by Lynch when defence attorneys Roger Yearwood and Mark Waldron objected.
According to Yearwood, the statement the prosecutor intended to tender was taken without administering the caution in accordance with the judge’s rules. Additionally he could not be sure of the relevance of the statement.
Hukumchand responded that the objection was based on speculation. He added that the statement was an ordinary one and not a caution statement.
Hukumchand and Yearwood then quoted from various authorities to support their reasons why the statement should not be tendered in evidence at the PI.
The magistrate excused the witness and stated that he would have to rule.
Hukumchand then called David Falconer, Lynch’s neighbour, as his next witness. He then asked for an adjournment and the witness will return on Thursday to continue his evidence in chief.
Lynch is being represented by attorneys-at-law Nigel Hughes, Waldron and Yearwood.
Farouk Razac was found dead in his bedroom at his Ireng Place, Bel Air home.
