Woman found in trench died from drowning -post-mortem

Police yesterday said that a post-mortem conducted on Allison Paul, the mother of two whose body was discovered face-down in a trench near the East La Penitence Police Station on Friday, revealed that she died from asphyxia due to drowning.

The report also revealed that she had sustained blunt trauma to the head before she died. The time of death was given as between 4:45 am and 5:50 am.

Paul, 36, of Lot 650 East Ruimveldt and a security guard attached to Brans Security Service, was discovered by someone walking through an alleyway near the trench around 6 am on Friday. There were no visible marks of violence on her body but froth was evident in the nose and on the mouth. She was clad in a pair of jeans and a flowered top and a pair of yellow rubber slippers was discovered a few yards away.

Relatives said Paul slipped out of the house around 2 the morning she died. They never knew something had happened to her until they saw her being fished out of the trench in a TV newscast.

She will be laid to rest tomorrow.
