Alleged ganja traffickers held at police roadblocks

Three men who allegedly had various quantities of ganja for trafficking when they were searched at police roadblocks were remanded to prison when they appeared at the Providence Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Troy Sertimer of Linden, Troy Arthur, and Ceadoff Parris of Wisroc Housing Scheme, Linden all pleaded not guilty to three charges of trafficking in narcotics and were remanded to prison by Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

It is alleged that last Saturday at Yarrowkabra, on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway, Sertimer had in his possession 4,652 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. Arthur is accused of having 58 grammes of cannabis for trafficking at Yarrowkabra last Saturday also while on Monday at Yarrowkabra again, Parris allegedly had 115 grammes of the drug for trafficking.

The police prosecutor told the court that the men were all nabbed in various minibuses when police held roadblock exercises in the area.

He said that following searches the drugs were found in bags that the defendants were carrying. They were informed of the offence being committed and arrested and charged.

The trio was remanded until October 25 when they will return to the Providence Magistrate’s Court for trial.
