Lindeners in candlelight vigil for road crash victims

Lindeners last evening came out in their numbers for a candlelight vigil at the crash site for the 10 persons who perished in last Wednesday’s road accident.

The vigil was organised by the Linden Evangelical Ministers Fellowship and other religious organisations were present along with the business sector and the police.

Persons are said to have walked for miles to attend the vigil. They all came out at 7 pm with candles in hand at the crash site on the hill at Amelia’s Ward Linden.

The Ministers had a special programme for the many people who turned out and recited prayers and sung gospel songs. The stage for the event was located in a yard just a short distance from the site but residents spilled onto the roadway as well.

Another of the accident victims, Delroy Mitchell was buried yesterday. Today Carl Austin, Elaine Lashley and Tyrese McLean are to be buried.

Ten persons perished in the incident while nine others were hospitalized at the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC) and the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

Those who died were Colleen Bacchus, Lorraine McCurdy, Florence Cummings, Carl Austin, Carl McAlmont, Delroy Mitchell, Tyrese McLean, Evelyn Adams, Elaine Lashley – who died on the way to the Georgetown Hospital – and Paul Lewis, the conductor of the minibus.

The minibus ‘Cobra’ last Wednesday night slammed into a parked logging truck as it was ascending a hill at Amelia’s Ward.
