Bush Lot man stabbed ex after she refused to reconcile -court hears

Magistrate Geeta Chandan denied a 30-year-old resident of Bush Lot Village, West Coast Berbice his pre-trial freedom when he appeared before her at the Blairmont Court on a charge of felonious wounding.

It is alleged that on October 7 at Plantation Ross, Nagendra Singh unlawfully and maliciously wounded Kamala Singh with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or to cause actual bodily harm.

According to reports, after committing the offence, Singh rode his bicycle to the Weldaad Police Station and informed ranks that he had just stabbed the woman. He also reportedly handed over the knife that was used to the police.

Police reports state that the defendant and the victim shared a common-law relationship at Bush Lot and it ended about two months ago.

She reportedly relocated to Ross and on the day in question Singh paid her a visit and tried to convince her to return home.

An argument ensued between the two and Singh allegedly whipped out a knife and dealt her a stab wound to her tummy. She was reportedly rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she is still a patient.

The man’s lawyer, Joel Persid Edmond submitted that his client has a mental problem and that he is currently taking treatment at the National Psychiatric Hospital.
