Kara Kara accident survivors transferred to city

The four survivors in Sunday’s accident at Kara Kara on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway have been transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital as police investigations continue.

They were transferred to the city hospital yesterday.

On Sunday Kellian Torres, 42, and Claudia Prince, 62, both of 33 Ogle, East Coast Demerara died and four others including a toddler were injured when the car they were travelling in toppled off a bridge at Kara Kara turning what should have been a family day of fun into mourning.

Driver Gopinauth Perreira, 28, of East La Penitence, who was said to be speeding at the time of the accident, 56-year-old Godfrey Telford of West Ruimveldt, Torres’s daughters one-year-old Yonla and 17-year-old Gailla are patients at the city hospital.

Only three weeks ago ten persons died in an accident in Linden and a few days later six perished at Liliendaal when their car slammed into a concrete fence. Road fatalities have climbed to over 180 for the year so far and the police have outlined a raft of measures to curb traffic lawlessness.

Charges are expected to be laid shortly.
