A 26-year-old vendor who allegedly attempted to rob Citizen’s Bank at Camp Street was released on bail when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Terrence McLean of 180 Charlotte Street pleaded not guilty to a charge of attempting to commit a felony and was granted bail in the sum of $150,000 by Magistrate Oneidge Waldron-Allicock.
It is alleged that last Thursday at Citizen’s Bank, Camp Street, he walked into the bank, went to a teller, indicated that he had a gun and demanded $1 million. However, police were called and he was arrested.
In a bail application for McLean, his counsel told the court that his client was a vendor at Bourda Market and had a problem of mental delusions. He said McLean was seeing psychiatrist Dr Frank Beckles and on the date in question had not taken his medication. The counsel stated that the offence was a bailable one and there was no allegation of any weapon being used.
However, Police Prosecutor Hugh Winter argued that the defendant went to a teller and indicated that he had a gun and demanded $1 million. He objected to bail being granted.
After listening to the submissions, the magistrate granted bail and ordered McLean to return to court on December 19 at Court Six.
