Brothers remanded on attempted murder charge after birthday party brawl

Two brothers accused of attempting to kill another man were remanded to prison when they appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Rickey Mohan, 34, of ‘C’ 14 Railway Line, Lamaha Embankment and his brother David Mohan, 35, were not required to plead to a joint charge of attempt to commit murder and were remanded to prison by Magistrate Oneidge Waldron-Allicock.

It is alleged that on November 6 at Georgetown with intent to commit murder they wounded Daneshwar Geer.

Attorney-at-law Euclin Gomes entered an appearance for the defendants. In his submissions, he stated that the Virtual Complainant (VC) had no problem with the two brothers.

He said the incident stemmed from a birthday celebration where there was a fight and neighbours attempted to part the brawl and Geer was accidently hit. He declared that the matter may not go the distance asserting that the police who visited the VC said he was recovering. He asked that bail be granted stating that Rickey is the father of three children and is a snow-cone vendor while David has one child and is a mechanic.

Responding, Police Prosecutor Hugh Winter stated that the VC was still hospitalized and underwent surgery with another operation slated for today because of continuous bleeding in the right eye. He stated that Geer also sustained head injuries.

After listening to the submissions, the magistrate remanded the duo. They will return to court on November 23 at Court Six.
