Businessman caught with firecrackers jailed for a year

A businessman was sentenced to one year imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of firecrackers when he appeared at the Springlands Court on Thursday before Magistrate Krishendat Persaud.

On November 6, 38-year-old Gajendranauth Budhoo of Whim Village, Corentyne had in his possession four packs of mini crackers, four packs of fireworks, six packs of Clear Thunder, 15 packs of Crazy King, four packs of Tronpito crackers, nine packs of coloured flares, ten packs of Scratch Bombs and 42 packs of Magic Shots.

According to reports, Budhoo also intended to evade the duties for the items.

He first appeared at the Number 51 Magistrate’s Court and was remanded to prison.
