Vendor rescues newborn on Merriman’s Mall

A just born baby girl was on Tuesday night rescued by a Bourda Market vendor who found her lying on a section of Merriman’s Mall.

The infant was admitted to the Neo-Natal Unit at the Georgetown Public Hospital and remained there up to late last night.

She is reported to be in good condition but up to press time last night, no one had gone to claim her.

Meanwhile, the mother of the child who was abandoned at the Accident and Emergency waiting area of the same hospital earlier in the week, is said to be in police custody.

This newspaper understands that police were able to track down the woman and she is being questioned while the child, who appears malnourished, remains a patient at the hospital’s paediatric ward.
