Grove quartet charged over car parts racket -one admits guilt

A man admitted to stealing car parts over a period while his alleged accomplices denied committing the offences when the quartet appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court on Friday. They were all remanded to prison.

Vickram Sannchan called ‘Vickey’, 20, of Grove, EBD admitted to five charges of simple larceny while his co-accused Krishna Persaud called ‘Imran’, 27, of 76 Grove Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara, Davindra Persaud called ‘Piggy’, 19, of 214 Grove Housing Scheme, EBD and Raymond Rudolph called ‘Wappia’, 30 of Lot 2 First Street, Grove Squatting Area denied the charges.

Additionally Komaldatt Mangar, 30, of 713 Grove Housing Scheme denied a charge of receiving stolen property. They were all remanded to prison by Magistrate Fazil Azeez.

According to the case presented by the prosecution, it is alleged that between November 25 and 26 at Windsor Forest, West Coast Demerara, the quartet stole from Davendra Nandalall a pair of head lamps valued at $130,000, a pair of rear lights worth $100,000, a CD player valued at $10,000 and a grill worth $25,000, a total value of $265,000, the property of the said Davendra Nandalall.

Further, on December 8 at Wallers Delight, WCD, the quartet is accused of stealing from Mohamed Zakhir a pair of headlights valued at $100,000, a pair of park lights valued at $60,000 and a grill worth $30,000, a total value of $190, 000, the property of the said Mohamed Zakhir.

Between December 6 and 7 at Malgre Tout, the quartet is accused of stealing a battery, a pair of rear lights, four trafficators, a pair of head lamps and a grill with a total value of $397,000, the property of Gwyneth George.

Krishna Persaud, Sunnchan and Davindra Persaud were also charged with stealing a pair of rear lights worth $140,000 last Tuesday at Crane, WCD, the property of Bheskmenauth Tiwari.

The trio also allegedly stole a park light valued at $8000, the property of Yeashwar Brijmohan.

Following the incidents at Crane, police acting on information received found the men in a car with some of the stolen items. They were arrested and following investigations were arrested and charged.

Investigations led to the arrest of Mangar. It is alleged that between November 25 and December 8, at Diamond New Housing Scheme, EBD, he received from Krishna Persaud, ten 212 head lamps, five 212 park lights, ten 212 grills, four 192 park lights, a 400-watt power amplifier, a 800-watt power amplifier, a 1400-watt power amplifier, a Pioneer CD player, a Pyramid cassette and CD recorder and a seven-band equalizer, knowing same to be stolen or unlawfully obtained.

All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the offences except for Sannchan, who admitted to committing the offences. He stated that the others were not involved.

Police Prosecutor Hamaladeen Baksh however objected to bail being granted to the defendants and the magistrate remanded them.

The quartet will return to court today at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court when Sannachan will be sentenced. Mangar will also return to court today at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
