Venezuelan found with unlicensed firearm, ammo remanded

Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle yesterday remanded to prison a Venezuelan man found with an unlicensed gun and matching rounds during a raid on a North West District (NWD) hotel.

Juan Morin, a 26-year-old fisherman pleaded not guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition when the charges were read to him at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on December 21, at Arakaka, NWD, Morin had in his possession without lawful authority one .357 Magnum revolver and six matching rounds when he was not the holder of a firearm licence. According to reports, police, acting on information searched a hotel room at the Arakaka Water Front and the items were found in a bag. Following investigations Morin was arrested and charged.

Morin communicated to the court through an interpreter.

He was ordered to appear at the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court on February 5.
