‘Picture Boy’ committed to stand trial for third murder

Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs yesterday committed Seon Collier called ‘Picture Boy’ to stand trial in the High Court for the murder of Chandrapaul Persaud at his Non Pareil home last year September.

Her decision came after listening to the evidence from ten witnesses led in testimony by Prosecutor Edmond Cooper over the last four months.

Collier is accused of murdering Persaud also known as ‘Kero man’ and ‘Ravin’ on September 30, 2006.

Persaud was shot and killed after three men stormed his East Coast Demerara (ECD) home shortly after he drove into his yard. This was sometime after 7 pm.

Two of the gunmen went into his home where his wife, Nazeema, and two daughters were in the kitchen. The men demanded cash and jewellery from the woman and she later handed over about $100,000, three gold rings and a watch.

It was while the two men were in the house the woman said she heard gunshots outside. The men then escaped in the couple’s car and the man’s wife said she then saw her husband lying on the roadway dead. The next day the car was found abandoned.

It is believed that Persaud was killed after he put up a fight by pelting the gunman who was guarding him with drink bottles.

Collier was later captured during a Joint Services operation in the pre-dawn hours at Bachelor’s Adventure, ECD. Police had also said that one of the army’s stolen AK-47s was recovered at the same time as were other weapons and a large quantity of ammunition.

He was immediately linked to the murders of two brothers at Victoria and the murder of Persaud and later placed before the court. He made his first appearance at the Georgetown Magis-trate’s Court before Acting Chief Magistrate Cecil Sullivan who refused him bail and transferred the matter to two East Coast Courts – Vigilance and Cove & John.

During the preliminary inquiry for Persaud’s murder, Collier was represented by attorney-at-law James Bond.

Earlier this month, the same magistrate committed Collier to stand trial in the High Court for the September 23, 2006 murders of Victoria brothers – Ray Walcott and Carl Andrews.
