Stevedore post-mortem points to accident – police

Police yesterday said that a post-mortem examination revealed that Christopher Edwards, who was found dead on the Annandale Railway Embankment on Christmas day, several feet from his motorcycle, died in an accident.

Relatives of the Golden Grove, East Coast resident had said that they believed he was a victim of foul play as he was last seen alive with a large sum of money in his possession on Christmas Eve night.

They had also said that the wounds on his body and the scene where he was found were not consistent with an accident.

Police in a release said that following the post-mortem by Dr. Vivekanand Brijmohan yesterday, the cause of death was given as cerebral haemorrhage, fractured skull and fractured cerebral point due to an accident.

The police said too that investigations so far have not substantiated the view that Edwards had been in possession of a large sum of cash at the time of his death.

“It has been revealed that Christopher Edwards, who was employed at John Fernandes Ltd had worked from 06:00h on December 23 to 16:00h on December 24, 2007. He had reportedly left home without any money and had not been paid by his employer at the time of his leaving work on Christmas Eve”, the release added.

Edwards will be buried on Monday.
