Two charged with carnal knowledge of under-15 girls

Two men who were charged with separate counts of carnally knowing a girl under the age of 15 appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday and were remanded to prison by Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.

Shawn Phipps, the first to appear, is accused of having carnal knowledge of an 11-year-old girl between July 31 and September this year at Georgetown.

The Lot 3768 Cummings Street, Bourda resident was not required to plead to the allegation when it was read to him.

Attorney-at-law Frank Fraser who entered an appearance for him told the court that his client is a carpenter/mason and a married father of four.

According to counsel, his client was in custody since November 9 but was released on station bail after police carried out their investigations.

Police prosecutor Sherwin Matthews asked for bail to be refused stressing that the charge is of a serious nature and the girl involved is only 11-years-old.

The magistrate later refused bail and adjourned the matter to January 4.
