Man jailed one year for bangle theft

Magistrate Krishendat Persaud on Tuesday sentenced a man to one year imprisonment after he admitted to pouncing on a woman and stealing her gold bangle.

According to the Number 51 Court report Orin Burnett, 22, of Queenstown, Corriverton, committed the offence on Neelam Seckawat at Number 78 Village on December 6, 2006.

Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Michael Grant, told the court that Seckawat was walking along the Number 78 Public Road when Burnett accosted and stole the article from her then escaped. The bangle was valued at $120,000. It has not been recovered.
