$103M allocated for several Region Seven projects

Under this year’s budgetary allocation for Region Seven (Cuyuni/Mazaruni) about $103M will be spent to sustain and execute several ongoing projects in the region’s various sectors.

Under its current work programme, several buildings are scheduled for repairs including pork-knockers’ logies, the Amerindian hostel at Kamarang and the quarters/offices of the acting Regional Executive Officer, according to a release from the Government Information Agency (GINA).

The Regional Democratic Council (RDC) will expend approximately $20M to further repair several roads including Seventh, Eighth and Ninth streets in Bartica.

Wooden bridges at Enachu, the Kamarang/Waramadong farm-to-market road and at Beach Front, Bartica are slated for repairs at a cost of $6.8M, GINA said.

It noted also that the drainage and irrigation programme will continue in partnership with the government, while the RDC will undertake work to the main drains. And government will carry out additional work that would cost $10M.

To improve sea and river defence, GINA said, $3.5M has been budgeted. The capital work programme for the region is $90M, to be spent on several new projects and initiatives that are intended to make Bartica the tourist town of the country, GINA added.
