Darius Ali and Asharnica Persaud ran out winners of the boys and girls’ Under-11 categories of the Igloo Ice-Cream sponsored badminton tournament which climaxed Saturday at the Queen’s College courts.
Ali defeated Narayan Ramdhani 21-12, 9-21, 20-22 in the boys’ final while Persaud defeated Rose Mendes 21-19, 21-9 to take the first place trophy among the girls.
Earlier in the boys’ semi-finals, Ramdhani defeated Stanley Ming Jnr. 21-9, 21-4 while Ali defeated Aman Alvis 21-14, 21-8.
Alvis copped the third place while Ming was fourth.
In the girls’ semi finals, Asharnica Persaud defeated Lisa Persaud 21-10, 21-8 while Mendes defeated Mariah Low 21-19, 21-9. Lisa Persaud and Mariah Low were third and fourth respectively.
The presentation of prizes to the winners was done by the CEO of Sterling Products Ltd., Ramsey Ali.
Meanwhile, the Under-19 singles is scheduled to start on Friday at the same venue from 5pm.
