Diamond Fire and General Insurance inter-association U-19 competition

Georgetown trounced East Bank by a whopping 153 runs in the third round of the Diamond Fire and General Insurance inter-association under-19 limited overs cricket competition at the Diamond Community Centre ground yesterday.

Stephen Jacobs blasted 16 fours and three sixes in a swashbuckling 122 out of his team’s total of 213 all out made in 47 overs.

Imitiaz Ishak with 3-42 and Totaram Bishun 2-23 were the most successful bowlers for East Bank who, in reply, were trundled out for a paltry 60 from 26.5 overs.

Extras top scored with 19 and no East Bank batsman reached double figures.

The main wreckers for Georgetown were Travis Blyden, 3-8; Chidanand Shivram 3-13; Leon Scott 2-22 and Delroy George, 2-13.

At the Wales Community Development Centre ground, East Coast defeated West Demerara by six wickets knocking off the 120 runs needed for victory in 34.5 overs for the loss of six wickets.

West Demerara won the toss, batted, and were dismissed for 120 in 25 overs.

The West Demerara team failed to put together any partnerships when they batted. To make matters worse, several catches were put down when they were fielding.

Rudra Harripersaud top-scored with 23 for West Demerara while Balbida Persaud chipped in with 20.

Deodat Singh was the pick of the East Coast bowlers with 3-12; Delon Hamilton grabbed 3-23 while Earl Henry and Kumar Bisoondial captured two wickets each for 23 and 15 runs respectively.

East Coast, who replied with 124-6, lost wickets at regular intervals and at lunch were 61-5. At that stage it was anybody’s game.

After the interval, Abdool Amin and Peacham Durga took the score to 88 before Greg Singh bowled Durga. Henry joined Amin and, through some lusty hitting, they took the visitors to victory in 34.4 overs.

Amin struck six fours top-scoring with 38 not out while Henry was not out on 13.

Rohan Harrinarine picked up 3-18 and Mohu Mohammed grabbed 2-21 bowling for West Demerara.

The competition’s first round began last month but was halted after only one completed game because of a dispute between the Umpires and Scorers Association and the Demerara Cricket Board.

Attempts to continue the competition earlier this week were thwarted by rain with the second round, rained out on Tuesday. This round will be played today with East Coast hosting Georgetown at Lusignan and East Bank opposing West Demerara at Wales.

East Bank defeated East Coast in the lone, first-round match that was played. The remaining first-round game between West Demerara and Georgetown will be played on Monday at the Police Sports Complex ground, Eve Leary.
