Further to your publication of a letter captioned “Our tourism sites must be properly maintained” (07.01.04) which you sent to us for comment we wish to make the following clarification and comments:
* Orinduik Falls does not fall within the purview of designated public parks that are managed by the National Parks Commission.
* We are reliably informed by pilots and navigators, that the red roof of the Kaieteur Guest house serves as a useful landmark, especially during bad weather. This has been the situation for many years now.
* No garbage is dumped and burnt in the vicinity of the arrival benab. What may have seemed to be garbage were shrubs cleared from the immediate surroundings.
* Within the letter, mention is made of forest clearing. Specific information should be provided, since we are not aware of any such clearing.
It would be useful if visitors to Kaieteur National Park were to contact or write directly to the Commission. In the past, this has helped us to improve conditions and management of this Park.
