The police have not reported to my family the outcome of the investigation into my brother’s execution

Dear Editor,

Tuesday January 30, 2007 marked the 1st anniversary of the death of my brother, talk show host and political activist Ronald Waddell, who was brutally executed by merciless murderers and cowards of the underworld who seem to have immunity for the murders they commit.

After his execution the Guyana Police Force held a few scapegoats to give members of the public the impression that it would relentlessly pursue Waddell’s killers and bring them to justice. However the GPF whose motto is to serve and protect remain silent on the investigation into his murder.

No courtesy was extended to Waddell’s family by informing them about the status of the investigation, perhaps it was because he did not have a US or Canadian Visa or relatives who can afford to pursue the matter in the Supreme Court.

Unlike other high profile murders, Minister Satyadeow Sawh’s execution took precedence over others committed before that led the police to put out wanted bulletins for his alleged murderers as well as charge a teenager.

It was a mystery how the leads during investigation into my brother’s execution turned to nothing after the assurance give by ex-Minister of Home Affairs Gail Teixeira that the police would bring Waddell’s killers to justice.

The Crime Chief, now Commissioner of Police (acting) said that no one was cleared but I guess through his silence that the state has cleared all suspects.

Waddell’s work lives on while the statements made by those perceived to be his enemies and the political directorate clearly show their attitude.

On the anniversary of his execution my fervent prayer as one of his brothers is that his fight against discrimination, unemployment, extra-judicial execution, illiteracy, racism and other ills in society that affect the under-privileged citizens of Guyana will one day come to an end through an educated voting population that will vote for policies beneficial to them and their country.

Yours faithfully,

Ovid Waddell-Smith
