Equipment stolen from Guynec ground

Dear Editor,

Visiting the El Dorado match between Berbice and Demerara at the Stadium on Sunday I was surprised to hear that equipment bought with Stanford funds was stolen from the Guynec Ground. If this is true it is a very serious matter and points to poor management of the Cricket Board’s assets.

Can the Board issue a statement if this is so or is it just a rumour?

Yours faithfully,

R. Cruickshank

Editor’s note

Mr Chetram Singh, President of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) confirmed that equipment purchased with the funds was stolen nearly a week ago. Singh said the GCB usually stores equipment at the Guynec Ground, which is guarded by a security firm, adding that there were no previous thefts. He said the burglary appeared to have well organized since the equipment stolen, a plow and a chipper, each weighed about 800 pounds. According to him, the matter is currently being investigated by the police.
