Stabroek News seems to be promoting a PNCR fallout

Dear Editor,

I wonder what is the agenda of a certain printed media, which seems very keen in promoting a “PNCR fallout”. I have observed over the past months that a certain newspaper, which knows itself by now, appears to be using every effort to sustain a “PNCR showdown”. I, therefore, ask myself whether these people are really acting in the interest of team Alexander or if, indeed, they have a more sinister and dangerous objective. Maybe Alexander and his few soldiers are merely the means used to achieve these anti-PNCR objectives. Prior to the PNCR congress there were weekly interviews conducted by a senior reporter of that paper with Vincent Alexander, nothing was wrong with this but the questions posed by the reporter seemed to be primarily aimed at eliciting responses which would really injure the party. Is it that team Alexander is too caught up with promoting their own interest that they are not wise enough to recognise this fact or is it that they cannot be bothered?

In a Stabroek News article dated Sunday Sept. 23, 2007 I read an article under the heading “PNCR Disciplinary Committee Summons McAllister, Nurse”, the story reported that these two individuals are to report before the party’s disciplinary committee to deal with charges brought against them. What was amusing in the story was the fact that Nurse, who was named in the story stated that he only knew of the issue when he was contacted by Stabroek News. Here again one can only question the eagerness in this paper to publish this story, they seem to be more eager than the accusers. What a pity! More than that, nothing in the story indicates that an attempt was made to contact the party’s disciplinary committee to have some information from that party. This approach can only indicate biased reporting which strikes against the very basis of independent journalism.

I am a regular reader of Stabroek News, I am one of those who felt that the government’s decision to withdraw the advertisements from that entity was unfair and unjust but it seems like Stabroek News is playing a game similar to that of the government. I make this comment to say that I am in receipt of a letter sent to Stabroek News on 7 Sept. 2007, this letter seems to be giving the other side of the Team Alexander story, however, it has not been published.

Yours faithfully,
