Sixth Street Cummings Lodge is in a terrible state

Dear Editor,

I write about the deplorable state of one of the most important streets in my village of Cummings Lodge, Sixth Street, which is one of the two access roads to the University of Guyana which lies along the route used by the minibuses serving Ogle, Industry and Cummings Lodge.

A road of this importance has been in a terrible state for at least one year and despite government officials traversing it nobody has made a comment about it being repaired any time in the near future.

A situation like this would normally develop in a community whose residents are predominantly PPP supporters. Look at our neighbouring villages of Ogle and Industry. The vast majority of residents in these villages including mine are not concerned what the government quantitatively and qualitatively does for them but are contented that the Party they voted for is in power.

These residents should observe what happened recently at UG and President’s College where all and sundry that were affected vented their frustration. These protests should send a message to the government that the entire population is paying taxes (VAT) now and in return all Guyanese need to reap to benefits of these contributions.

Let us see if the concerned residents will make the repairs of Sixth Street a reality or will the government suddenly wake up and execute its mandate.

Yours faithfully,

R M Khan
