The water company cut me off though I had received no bill

I noticed the circus packing up to leave town this morning. Why then are the clowns still at large?

One keeps hearing complaints from Guyana Water Inc. about consumers not paying their water bills. Perhaps if that company could provide bills which made sense to the average consumer this problem could be overcome. Perhaps if they were to issue bills on a regular basis it would help also.

My recent experience with GWI is as follows. I received a bill in July which I paid in full in July. I have since received no bills from GWI. My water supply was disconnected yesterday. Upon inquiring I was told that my account was in arrears to the tune of $60,000. I asked why my service was disconnected prior to my receiving a bill for this amount. I was told that if I didn’t receive a bill it was my responsibility to check with them to see how much I owed.

The next logical question was – at what point should a consumer realize that he or she has not received a bill? No answer. So I asked how often they send out bills. I was told that bills were produced every quarter.

My final question was as follows: since the last bill that I paid in full was issued in July, why then am I being disconnected exactly three months later just around the time when my next quarterly bill should be ready to be sent out?

I was informed in a superior manner that the July bill which I had paid was a sewerage bill and not a water bill and that these two are separate.

I could have gone on to add that earlier this year I paid another GWI bill on which were included both water and sewerage charges but at this point I realized that the circus was still in town and the clowns were still at large.
