I wish to respond to a letter by Narinedatt Harripersaud captioned “Mr Persaud’s Power Point presentation was a rehash of booklet given to those present” (07.11.14).
I am surprised that Mr Harripersaud is still preoccupied with the format of the presentation rather than the substance. While I respect his opinion, others who were present have publicly expressed different views.
However, for your readers’ sake, I would like to recall the sequence of events that took place at the Agricultural Investment Opportunities seminar held in Florida. The Minister of Agriculture interacted with those who attended before the start of the official session for over one hour. Then after the session, the minister had another one-on-one interaction for about another hour.
The handout that was circulated to those who attended was intended to represent the presentation of the minister as persons had, in advance, so requested.
It was also surprising to note that a potential investor did not get an opportunity to make contact with the minister during his presentation or his interaction with those who attended. The minister also made his personal email and address available and identified the New Guyana Marketing Corporation as being the lead agency to follow up.
In addition, I would like to inform Mr Harripersaud that the positive feedback we have been receiving from the session has been overwhelming. To date, more than a dozen potential investors have indicated an interest to invest in Guyana. Several potential investors are due from Florida this week to follow up the presentation and initiatives by the minister.
Meanwhile, I would like to take this opportunity to encourage Mr Harripersaud to contact the New Guyana Marketing Corporation or the minister’s office to discuss any clarification he may desire and support the government’s and the minister’s renewed thrust to bring more investment to the agro-business sector.
