Sunrise CC whips IBE in Twenty20 fixture

Sunrise Cricket Club (SCC) of the USA defeated International Business Education (IBE) by 75 runs at the Lusignan Community Centre ground in a Twenty20 fixture yesterday.

Batting first in a match that was being used as a warm up for their important engagement against Everest Cricket Club on Saturday for the Americas Cup, SCC totaled 170-6 off their allotted overs with Dellon Samaroo making 27 off 19 balls with three fours and one six.

He received support from Kelon Merchant who made 25 not out off 19 balls with three sixes and one four and Port Mourant’s dashing middle order batsman Rajiv Ivan who made a guest appearance for SCC, scoring 23 off 15 balls with five fours.

Bowling for IBE, Raj Nanan the young diminutive left arm chinaman bowler took 2-34 and Dellon Fernandes who also took 2-36 from four overs of leg spin.

Needing to score heavily to get their target, IBE got off to a bad start when they lost one of their openers in only the second over of their innings. Captain Carlos La Rose then upped the tempo with some lusty hitting to all parts of the outfield, but there was no other batsmen who wanted to hang around and offer support to him.

La Rose went via the run out route as he attempted to take a second run that was not on after hitting the ball to the mid wicket boundary. Brian Sattaur with 12 was the only other batsman to get into double figures as the SCC slower bowlers kept a tight rein on the IBE batsmen who ended on 95-9 when their overs ran out on them

Bowling for SCC Sameer Khan 3-6 and Sheik Ragandana 2-9 were the chief wicket takers.

They received support from Sunidat Ballie and Irshad Mohammed who took one wicket each for 11 and 13 respectively.

At the end of the game, La Rose for his batting and Nanan for his bowling were the recipients of a trophy and $3,000.00 each, whilst Fernandes and Sattaur also received trophies for their bowling and batting performances respectively.

SCC’s next engagement will be their marquee match up on Saturday at the Everest ground when they will oppose the home team for the America’s Cup. Action in this match is set to commence at 11:30h.
