Added sponsorship for GCA competition

The Georgetown Cricket Association’s (GCA) P&P Insurance/ Cummings Electrical-sponsored Raymond Panday Memorial two-day second-division cricket competition will continue tomorrow with four matches.

In zone A, Police will attempt to arrest Demerara Cricket Club at the Carifesta Sports Complex, formerly The Guyana National Service ground and at the Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) ground on Woolford Avenue, the red hot Guyana Defence Force team will take on the home team.

Leading the Army’s challenge will be captain and left-arm orthodox bowler Clinton Collins. He will receive support from Terry Fraser and occasional off-spin bowler and opening batsman Vijay Singh.

GNIC will look to teenaged bowling sensation, Nikeitho Nesta, who has been a thorn to opposing batsmen with his off spinners, to wreck the GDF team’s batting.

Add captain Orlando Fraser to the fray, and the Army will have a tough task on their hands.

In the batting department, the hosts will look to Marvin Fitzalbert, Cylus Gibson and veteran Clive Grimmond to get good scores for their bowlers to have a go at.

In zone B, group leaders Transport Sports Club (TSC) will host Ace Warriors at Transport. Leading TSC will be Shawn Massiah, whilst Ace Warriors will look to Rawle Enmore, wicket-keeper Levar Douglas, Steven Harris, and captain Abzal Gafoor to get among the runs.

Their bowling will hinge around, Clint Mc Pherson, Roger Aaron, Harris and left-arm orthodox spinner Gafoor.

As an added bonus, players in this competition will receive awards for Man-of-the-Match performances thanks mainly to Mark Singh, CEO of Carib Foods Distributors Inc.

Making a short speech on behalf of Singh, Yogeta Persaud, Confidential Secretary of Carib Foods Distribution Inc told the media yesterday that Singh was pleased to be a part of this gesture.

“We at Carib Foods Distribution are very pleased to be associated with the GCA. We are also impressed with the work of the executives of the GCA and had no hesitation in coming forward and offering our sponsorship when we were approached.”

Meanwhile, president of the GCA, Bish Panday, expressed how happy he was with the sponsorship stating that it gave players and added bonus to perform well for their teams.

Match umpires and team captains will decide on the nominee for the award at the completion of each game.
