Champion Of Champions heating up

North Georgetown also known as District 11 will stage the heats for the second annual Champion of Champions athletics meeting from 8.30am today at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground, Bourda.

The Champion of Champions meet replaces the inter-school and inter-zone meets and serves as the single qualifier for athletes hoping to participate at the National Secondary School Champion-ships.

This years Champion of Champions meet will accommodate more than 35 primary, secondary and private schools within the North Georgetown District. Some of the schools competing in this year’s event include St. Margaret’s Primary, St. Agnes Primary, Winfer Gardens Primary, Brickdam Secondary, St. Stanislaus College, Bishops High School, Queen’s College, St. Roses Secondary, Business School and the Guyana Technical Institute.

The three hundred metre (300m) track at the GCC ground was remarked yesterday and, hopefully, the steep turn which exsited at previous meets have been rectified so that the 200 and 400m races can be run in lanes without any mishap.

The preliminaries for all the sprint events (60, 80, 100, 200 & 400m) along with the swimming events will take place today while the finals will be staged tomorrow.

Field events will be held next week .
