Fruta Conquerors tackle Alpha United in clash of the `big guns’

The Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Premier League and Supligen round robin action continues today at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground Bourda, with three exciting matchups.

The main matchup today will see third-placed Fruta Conquerors opposing the Leagues’ defending champion and current points leaders Alpha United from 7.30pm.

Prior to the clash of those two City football powerhouses, fourth-placed Camptown will face Santos, who are currently occupying the sixth position in the points standings.

Football fans will be able to whet their appetites for those two matches of the `big guns’ , by drinking in action in the GFA Supligen round-robin under-20 knockout competition featuring Beacon and guest team Buxton in a group ‘B’ match from 3:30pm. Meanwhile, in the GFA Supligen U-20 competition, UG completed a dramatic 2-1 upset over Pele, in a group match played on Monday at the UG ground. Dwayne Thomas and Christopher Basdeo converted attempts in the 20th and 79th minutes respectively.

Okanie Fraser scored Pele’s only goal in the 40th minute to negate the 1-0 deficit, leaving the scores dead even at the half. In the second half however, Pele could not produce an answer for Basdeo’s goal in the 79th minute and were forced to accept defeat.

In Tuesday’s Division One matchup at the Camptown ground, Thomas United gained a walk over from Northern Rangers, who were not present at game time.

On Wednesday, however, Black Pearl defeated Beacon 2-1 at the UG ground. Jason Clarke (21st) and Devon Smith (68th) accounted for the two Black Pearl goals while Nigel Denny scored Beacon’s only goal in the 42nd minute.
