Hectic week-end for local golfers

The programme of activities for local golfers will be stepped up this week-end with two major events at the Lusignan Golf Course.

New GPC Inc. will sponsor today’s tournament which is expected to attract a number of the country’s top golfers.

Among the starters will be Ian Gouveia, who won last week-end’s Medal Play sponsored by Guyoil, second-placed finisher Roger Rajkumar and national women’s champion Christine Sukhram.

Other top contenders include Alfred Mentore, Patrick Prashad, Melissa Humphrey, Colin Ming, John Tracey and Joaan Deo.

There will be the usual Shotgun start at 12:30 hours.

New GPC Inc. Chairman Dr. Ramsaroop is expected to be on hand to present the prizes at the end of the tournament.

At least 50 golfers have already registered to compete in the Annual Greensome tournament tomorrow as part of the Club’s fund-raising drive.

The annual Greensome is a nine-hole event and there will be other novelty events during the day’s activities.

The highlight will be a Bar-B-Que which will attract a wide cross section of residents from the Lusignan village and its environs.

Tomorrow’s action will tee off at 09:00 hours.

The Lusignan Course is in excellent shape and competition is expected to be keen on both days.
