Persaud, Tiwari lead after four rounds

The wheat is finally getting separated from the chaff in both the senior and junior categories of the Interim Steering Committee for the Development of chess national Closed championship.

After four completed rounds Kriskal Persaud of Berbice and Stabroek News’ chess correspondent Errol Tiwari have moved to the top of the senior division with the maximum four points.

In second place is Ronuel Greenidge who lost to Tiwari yesterday in a key encounter. Greenidge is on three points.

Four players in Shiv Nandalall, Learie Webster, Loris Nathoo and Andre Griffith are on two points. David Khan has one point and Irshad Mohammed none.

In the junior category Taffin Khan and Ronald Roberts are also on the maximum four points with Seon Taitt and Saeed Alli on two points occupying joint second position.

Kana Khan, on one-and-a-half points and Sham Khan and Cecil Cox on one point each, follow while Sherifa Ali has half-a-point.

The tournament continues Saturday at the Hotel Tower with the fifth and sixth rounds.
